selectif service

hey forum members i'am new on this forum and i have a question regarding selective service. I have gotten my DV visa this month and I'm planing to enter in US territory in march. The problem is that i m 25 years old now. In april 2013 i will celebrate my twenty sixteenth anniversary. So Should I register for selective service as soon as i will arrive at USA? is it possible to register for selectif service without green card an SSN? thanks

Since you will be a month shy of your 26th birthday when you enter the US and activate your GC, you technically don't have to register for the selective service. However, you can go ahead and register as soon as you land, just to give you some peace of mind that you've done what is required of you. No, you are not required to have a SSN before you register, but if you already have a SSN, then you are required to provide it.

thanks. I will register as soon as i will land.I don't know if I'm wrong but i think its possible to register online.

What is this "selective service"? Please throw some light on it, other forum-mates must get themsleves aware of it. And what does it have to do with 26 years of age?

Thanks, and best of luck!

Registration with the Selective Services is the process by which the U.S. government collects names and addresses of men ages 18 through 25 to use in case a national emergency requires rapid expansion of the armed forces.

All men ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. According to law, a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. Selective Service will accept late registrations but not after a man has reached age 26. According to the Selective Service's website, you may be denied benefits or a job if you have not registered. You can register at any U.S. Post Office and do not need a social security number, you can also register online. Find more information regarding Selective Services from the following link:
