Guys,

since I got roasted and BBQ'ed in this process, I thought I might check what needs to get done to get a security clearence. Any pointers as to what needs to be done with whom, paper work etc?

What's up, MartinAub... ???
Looks like you want to join the Admin .... you better off with private sector.

Anyway, look it up on Office of Personnel Management - Form SF 86

Thanks rick,

in my profession security clearence is sometimes needed and that has been a propblem in the past, thus I thought I should check it out in more detail.

I confess to being somewhat ignorant of the process, but I thought this sort of thing needed to be driven by your employer. I wasn't aware of a way for an individual to apply for a security clearance on their own behalf.

That seems to be the case, most of the time. I think.

First you have to determine what level of security clearance you require and then you have the employer who requests the clearance to initiate the process. Is this a requirement for a contract position or is it something you want to advertise as being self employed?

Bob,

as I am self-employed I am not doing this on behalf of anyone else and I would want the highest clearence possible. Has nothing to do with "advertising" rather preparedness.

On a side note: Any issues one needs to be aware of AFTER the passport? Any ongoing USCIS issues? Any paper collection required for future issues? Anything that needs to be retained? Would appear to me that if I ever have to deal with a law suit challanging my legal immigration status, I should retain all records.

Prepared for what? Every employer has different security clearance requirements. There may be some third party firms out there advertising ability to provide you security clearance, but this won't guarantee that a potential employer will recognize it since employers usually initiate their own security clearances. You can read up more on security clearances at he following website. There's even a link to the SF-86 form for national security clearance used by the US government.

As for paper collection after immigration process is complete, keep your naturalization certificate and passport in a safe place. No need to retain all the paperwork for the N-400 once you are complete with the process, although it does make for good historical personel reference many years down the road.

Nope. But....... why would anybody challenge anything related to your citizenship ??? Unless you had very high clearance because of your expertise and they found out "lies and deceit" behind. If any or such a thing were to happen, my friend, I would advise you to stay in the private sector......

Anyway, it is your call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rick,

there are such things as jealous people. Doesn't need to be me doing naughty things, might very well be someone else trying to screw me. BTW, even private sector companies do occasionally require security clearence.

as much as i know, the security clearance process is started by the employer. but in your case you're the employer. any chance for you to contact FBi and ask them which form you need to get it started? there are several level of clearances, don't know exactly what. i had one a few years ago through the the them employer. it involved a 60 page document to be filled out, and people you list in there were contacted. after everything was done and processed i was told the polygraph is random, meaning i could or not be asked to go through it. i didn't have to. it is a very detailed form. sorry i wasn't of much help
