S. 1932 Status

RaoDulla....i will be happy but surprises if you can just get 50K people to visit this forum and post a message.....uniting together is a big dream...

. either many people are not affected??,
. or they are tooo busy with their life....maybe everyday is life and death...trying to keep employer/client and family happy being on H1..
. or they are scared....or they think participation is not required....or they think others will take care....and they will also get the benefit...

Pardon my ignorance and judgement guys, but I was looking at the budget committee members, and I get a feeling that they are more of people (from midwest etc.) who would NOT lobby for immigrants' issues? what ya think?
Not one marylander or virginian I could write to here.

Pl. target these honorable members.... http://www.house.gov/budget/members.htm

There is an official term such as "free riders"... I was one of them when the bill went to Senate. But not anymore!

If it is the budget committee we need to educate and influence we dont have a choice, do we? I notice there are 5 from Texas.

Is anyone here from Houston ? I wonder if we can take a signed petition to Sheila Jackson Lee. She is a ranking member in the house from Houston and is pro -immigration. I also learnt that she has a Desi attorney as assistant / right hand.

Shall we send the same letters?

All,

What do you all think shall we post the same drafted letter to all these people who are on the Budget committee??.

thx.

Please post FINAL version with rest of the package

All:

Can the leaders here post
a) The FINAL version of the letter
b) Whom to post the letter to (Congressman/Senator/Committee member??)
c) THeir contact (e-mail/fax)

Their are so many messages that a newcomer will be hopelessly confused with all the corrections flying around. Or you can refer to a new thread with this information.

That will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Santosh

Hello Everyone,

Please note that as of today we have only two chance to solve our EB retrogression problem.

Chance 1: We request the House of Representatives to introduce and support the amendment in the house bill # 4241 in line with the senate bill # 1932.

Chance 2: If Chance 1 fails, we request Conference commitee members to address EB retrogression problem by allowing us to file I485 even though the date is not current and exclude Spouse and children from counting.

At this time what we want is that House passes the bill that is exactly similar to the Senate version. In order to win this battle we must convince the House of Representative to introduce the amendment in the house bill in line with the Senate bill. If we are able to do that and if House passes the bill that is similar to the Senate version we don't have to go through the conference commitee. For that reason please please mention this line: "Introduce an Amendment in the House for bill# 4241 in line with the S. 1932, Sections 8001 & 8002"

If no House of Representative makes the amendment, then in that case we will have to go through the conference commitee. During that period of time we will ask the conference commitee members to address EB retrogression problem by allowing us to file I485 even though the date is not current and exclude Spouse and children from counting.

I think that this will be a good strategy in current situation. Please share your thoughts.

I do agree with you. Getting our guys united for sending the letters to the Senators itself is a tough task. I dont think most of them are tooo busy. I think it is the attitude that others will take care.

I had been mailing the letters to the Congressmen and Senators. Unfortunately two senators from CA, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein voted no to the bill 1932.

i agree with santhosh_30, why not make a new thread.....where we can see the new letter and how to send them.....thank you guys for all the effort.

Rao,

My mistake I should have said no and not yes in my earlier post. I have deleted the same.

It is true that they both voted no on S1932 but they both also voted no against the BYRD amendment. That is more important for us. The passage of the bill is not a problem because both House and Senate is currently dominated by Republicans.

For us the immigration community the important part is the the EB Retrogression issue which needs to be addressed as early as possible.

Yes. I was more than happy when I heard that the Byrd amendment was defeted.

I am reading on this forum that the final draft letter is ready. can we get to see that and mail it to the congressmen.

indio0617,

I believe "texancanadian" in this forum is from the Houston area if I remember right..

Also one more thought about the email to Fax that isnamerica.org is working on. what happens if anti-immigration people start sending out faxes using this website to accomplish their purpose.. It is so convenient for anyone to use and it will get known immediately. what is the safeguard against this ?

This is the reason I believe, anti-immigration sites like numbersusa.com don't allow users to customize their (hardcoded !) letters. May be when isnamerica.org lets us send any letter that we draft, the subject line should be fixed and mention something "in favor of", which should not be editable !! Do others have any thought on this..

This is very good point.

Well, I believe everyone should allow to customize the letter before they send by webfax. By the way, I like the idea of static subject line and editable content box. Or ISN America need set something so they have to approve each fax quickly before it acutally send to congressman.

Please see msg. #451 on this thread. That is a FINAL PERSONALIZED version of the letter that I had my husband send.

GCBy2010.....thats a good catch....i agree that the header/title should not be editable....body can be editable so that we can make it personal..i will try to raise this issue in isnamerica.org or techworkers yahoo group..

faxing to congress men/ Do it now or NEVER

I completley agree with RAODULLA. As all of us know some just would not contribute any thing but they will be first in grabbing the fruits.
I did faxed about more than ten congress men in newyork and connecticut. I am going to try if I find some time in evening break.
Once again Do it now or Never

Final Version And Helpful Details

1) Please see msg. #451 on this (S.1932 status) thread. That is a FINAL PERSONALIZED version of the letter that I had my husband send.
2) A more general version is attached.
3) Write to congressmen at the moment because they can add amendments (we will write to conference committee members later). a. Find your zip code: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp,
b) Also, find your congressman here: http://www.house.gov/writerep/
4) Google the congressperson and find contact details on their website itself. You can email most of them too. Som of them you ahve to FAX.

It doesn't matter if others are not taking efforts. Trust me, there are MANY who have no clue about what is going on. Also, if we send the same letter - it will be a good sign to show that we as an immigrant community/diaspora are tremndously united.
