S. 1932 Status

Lobbyists

We need a professional lobbyist, but also need to coordinate with other skilled and legal immigration-friendly organziations such as CompeteAmerica and NAM. Willing to contribute.

Sobers, one of the partners in the law firm that my company uses is Laura Reiff, and she apparently wrote much of the Title VIII that we are interested in. I will call her once this mess is over and volunteer to keep after her.

Hi Guys,

I am been a passive member of this forum but did send the faxes to congressmen and senator.

Whatever be the outcome of S.1932 although I am still hopeful that something will comeout if not everything.

The main reason behind the frustration that we all get in while waiting for Green Card is the Regulation that we cannot switch employer till we reach certain stage i.e I-485 being filed and 140 being approved. My two cents are that we shud all educate the american lawmakers that employement based green card process should be corrected so that people can change employers without effecting the green card process as the current process just makes it easy for the employers to exploit and it is more or less a form of slavery and against the tenets of freedom & liberty which are cornerstone of American constitution and democracy.

Thanks,

This thread on friday was at 100th page by afternoon and now it is at page 180. I am worried wether this thread has any limitation setup by the adminstrator  Can some one clarify my doubt.

Created a sample letter thread

I created a sample letter thread parallel to this one and copy pasted Sandeep's letter. Does anyone know how to make it a sticky thread?

We will keep getting requests for sample letters.

Contact Congr. Lamar Smith!!

Congressman L. Smith's contact:
http://lamarsmith.house.gov/constituentservices.asp?FormMode=Call&LinkType=Section&Section=8

from www.immigration-law.com:

Rep. Sensenbrenner and Rep. Lamar Smith are fairly well known anti-immigrationists. Even before the House passed S. 1932, Rep. Lamar Smith was advocating his view that S. 1932 immigration bills should be handled as part of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation next year. However, Rep. Smith is a legislator who is unpredictable as illustrated by his sponsorship of H-1B Visa Reform Act of 2005 providing 20,000 additional H-1B numbers for the U.S. Master or higher degree earners. He stands strongly against legalization of the illegal immigrants but supports reluctantly legal immigration bills. This reporter urges the community to send "en masse" thank-you fax to him for his previous legislation of H-1B Visa Reform Act of 2005 and ask him to show a similar support in the S. 1932.

They may kill the immigration packet in 1932. Today, Sunday is the last day (unless they still stretch the proceedings it until tomorrow)

At the outset I would like to thank you for your support to all legal
immigration legislation in the past. I would like to appeal to you to
take action to retain the best professionals who have applied for
immigration through employment based immigration channels. Legal
immigration offers the country the benefits of outstanding
individuals. Clubbing them with complex illegal immigration issues
would imply getting them entangled in long deliberations next year to
resolve the nation's broader immigration policy. This would
jeopardize America's ability to attract and retain best talent—and
ultimately jobs—in the United Stateslace.

I am a concerned legal immigration applicant and I urge you to vote
in support of the Senate modifications incorporated in Deficit
Reduction Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 2006 (S. 1932) passed by the
Senate. The action taken by the Senate Judiciary Committee proposes
an increase in revenue by recapturing authorized, but never used,
visa numbers for foreign workers with key skills in jobs for which
U.S. workers are not available.

I, hereby urge you to vote in support of Section 8001, "Recapture of
unused visa numbers", of the Senate Deficit Reduction Omnibus
Reconciliation Act of 2006 when it comes up for consideration in the
conference committee.

All, please don't look to Sunjoshi and Pdakwala for 'leading this effort'. They have a limited amount of energy and can't do everything.

Walden, Hopeful, you guys have done a lot the last couple days.

Go ahead and think of the best way to answer your own questions and the rest will follow. Leadership is within every one of us - at the present time, everyone who makes a good suggestion is a leader - and every one of us must take responsibility for moving this forward. We can't always look to someone else for suggestions and solving problems, they are volunteers too and have a finite amount of energy.

Please don't take this the wrong way, this is meant to challenge every one of us. If you have an idea, post it. If you want to write a letter to a Congressman, draft it. If you want to call a Congressman, think about what you want to say and say it. Don't worry about your communication skills, or lack thereof :) Every one of us has value within ourselves but we have got to have the confidence to bring that value out. That is the only way your own personality will be reflected in what you say, and presenting a genuine face is the only way to win this war - not with carbon copy faxes or carbon copy letters. This is what NumbersUSA uses, and we must beat them with their own game.

Good thoughts ... This is good .... constructive critisim is good .... I have let my gaurds down and invite any critisim and suggestions. The aim is to work towards creating more objective and organized approach.

Some of the suggestions here are:

1.) Hire lobbyist is good.
2.) Gather resources to organize effort.
3.) I suggest we create a core group of members who could work on the strategy and travel to Washington on personal resources and meet the Senators and Congressmen. This involves more motivated members who are ready to put in resources.
4.) Involve India Caucus which already have large number of Senators and Congressmen.

Will continue to think of more ideas and share.

Sandeep, could you please contact Monica?

I think we have to tell the moderator (Monica?) - thats how I did some time back

Sandeep could you please tell Monica since you have done it once before?

We will keep getting requests for sample letters, requests for 'what do I tell Congressmen', requests for contact info for Congressmen etc.

We should really have a FAQ thread with 4 posts - 1 sample letter, 1 sample conversation talking points, 1 post with Sunjoshi's presentation, 1 contact info text file etc.

I am sure people will still ask but at least if the requests are reduced they will reduce clogging info on the main thread.

Great idea!

As I posted earlier, I will contact Laura Reiff of my company's law firm Re your #1.

I live in Eastern PA and can travel to DC, no problem. So will volunteer for #3 as well.

People who are ready to do more than just call/fax/email should probably sign up on Hopeful's thread and list what they can do.

Ray of Hope:

Everyone, I have found that the bill is still not final. I just called Senator Arlen's office and I was told that they are still discussing on few things. There is some possibilities to make changes. Before they go on the floor, everyone please keep sending fax, call Lamar Smith and Arlen Spector and request both of them to support the legal immigrants.

This is very important.

I sent the letter to Lamar Simth. Let's mass him and turn him to our side at the last minute. Thanks for your effort before, let's keep our momentum. It won't end until we are succeed.

All, I created a thread with "FAQ" in the title, and it has Sunjoshi's latest ppt presentation, Pdakwala's contact list, and Sandeep's sample letter.

Sandeep, Pdak, Sunjoshi, could you guys please ask Monica to make it a sticky thread so we can point people to it and avoid clogging the main thread?

Thanks.

Stucklabor,

I recommend that you attach the contact.txt I put a few minutes ago...this is the latest and greatest, which combines congress/senate/media/immigration contacts...

hope this helps,

I will do that. Everyone, Please keep calling. The game is still not over. I just spoke to the individual at Senator Arlen's office. He said that the discussion is still going on. There is a chance to make any changes needed.

Everyone please get in touch with Lamar and Senator Arlen. Anyone from Texas need to come forward immediatly. He no matter what has to call Lamar Smith and convince him to support the immigration provision.

I am from Texas but am having no luck reaching Lamar Smith....
If you guys know of a way, pls post...

I am only getting his VM....I also left messages at the Austin and San Antonio offices....

Too bad this stuff is happening on a weekend.....

Hello Pdakwala, What number did you call Senator Arlen Spector's office. His regular office number is going to Vm which is full.

Bridgeguy, please go into the FAQ thread and look at the contact info post there. Please copy the House info into your file (your file needs more House info), and simply follow up and post your file in the FAQ thread. Once I see that you have posted your file, I will delete my earlier post.
