Ridiculous question about signing lease agreement now for proof of residence

Bear with me for asking something like this. I have been crossing the border to Canada quite a bit and I am trying to gather info to show my residence here. The thing is I don't have a lease agreement. I have been renting two rooms from a friend of mine who owns the house and we never signed anything.

Would it be ok if we sign one now and dated it to the date I rented the place as if we actually did it? Or a letter from him will suffice? The bank doesn't return canceled checks past six months so I only have the most recent months of canceled checks to show for.

A notarized letter indicating that he leased the room to you over the period in question should suffice. Just be prepared to be grilled on this at interview if US residency ties is an issue in your case.

maisflocon, perhaps it would be better to keep all the questions related to your interview in one thread, or to copy and paste the relevant information about your case so people know what is your situation with proof of residence. My only comment is that you don't need to convince us, you need to convince the IO, perhaps it is time to consult a competent lawyer and go with one to the interview (wasn't that one of your earlier questions?)

Hi Bobsmyth, you seem very knowledgeable. What sort of stuff do you think I will be grilled on just so I am mentally prepared? I feel like I have nothing to hide, most everything I have is here and I have not much ties elsewhere, and that's what I am hoping to show.

If you have a pattern of repetitive travel to Canada, expect to be asked what the purpose was , where your principle residence is, and if you filed taxes in US during the last 5 years.
