Returning to the US

Hi:

I will be traveling to India to visit family and will be returning to the US early Jan 2009. I am a GC holder and this will be my first trip after becoming a permanent resident. What kind of questions might I be asked at US immigration when returning? I have travelled before on my H1B but in those cases immigration never asked me any questions. The last two times were in LA and Chicago. This time immigration will be in Houston. I teach at a university- don't know if that helps.

Can any of you give me some ideas on what immigration might ask me?

The usual questions - what do you do, where do you live, how long were you gone?

Yes...you will hear something that you did not hear when you were on H1 ..."welcome home"

They did not ask anything when I entered. Once the officer checked my docs, she stamped it and let me go. They only words betwen us were 2 "hello".
