Returning in Less than 12 Months after the First Entry

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help me with my question. My parents recently received their green card and they visited us. My father was here for 10 days only but my mother stayed for 2 months. Now, they want to come back next summer. Their stay outside the US will be for over 6 months but will be under 12 months.

Would they have problem at reentry? All my brothers and sister live in the U.S. and both my parents' siblings live in the US as well. After this second visit, they plan to return as often as possible.

Please share your own experiences.

They're not planning to live primarily in the US? They only plan to "return as often as possible"?

If they're not going to make the US their primary residence, and they just want to visit often, they probably should surrender their green cards and get tourist visas.
 
Of course not, it takes time to wrap up a lifetime of affairs and properly close businesses and sell properties. It's easier to migrate when one is his/her twenties or thrities. It takes a lot more effort and requires multiple trips when one is in his/her sixties and seventies.
 
You mean they still need to be outside the US most of the time for the next couple years? Then they should apply for reentry permits the next time they're in the US.
 
I can tell you the real story of my friend. He was out of the US for 2 years and 1 month and just entered last week at Chicago POE. The officer wasn't happy and fined him $600. He had to pay cash right there at the booth.
 
We came to USA on 13th Nov 2010, 8 months ago. My wife is going back to Sri Lanka on 28th August 2011 and coming back to USA on 16th January 2012 (4.5 months) .

She will be going with her Green card and the SSN card.

I supoose those are enough , since she is staying out of the USA less than 6 months.

Please tell me any other documents are needed to show at the immigration when returning back to USA after 4.5 months stay outside

if she stays out of the US for less than 1 year, then she only needs to show passport and greencard for re-entry. since she is staying 4.5 months outside, she still just needs passport and greencard
 
Pls help,i got GC in march 2011 wt my wife and daughta thru d DV program .I left in april afta spending 6wks in US.I plan to return finaly in sept 2011 which 5mnths outside US.Hope i wil b ok wt jst my GC & nigerian Passport?
Also ,i learnt dt GC Holders are askd questn @ POE abt what de go out to do.Pls whats d best answers to give?And what are other posible questns askd by IOs?Pls help
