As a legal resident, do i qualify to get a job with the government or do i have to be a citizen for that?

You are not eligible for jobs that require security clearance or those in sensitive positions. Other than that, there are no restrictions.

It depends on the specific type of job and level of government. There is no blanket requirement of citizenship for all government jobs. And if you're talking about state or city government, the available options for LPRs are greater.
