Rescheduling N400 Interview

I just wanted to reach out and see if anybody has tried to reschedule their N400 interview date?

I have received my interveiw date/time, however that falls bang in the middle of a trip I need to make to India (to attend to some family issues). Unfortunately, after a lot of deliberations, I need to try to move my interview date to a later time. Not sure how much would this delay the process (possibly a few months).

Any insight around whether INS usually honors such requests OR flatly refuses & just considers the app as abandoned, if you do not show up.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Go ahead and request a re-schedule. They do not deny it. Only thing you need to consider is the "time".
#1. Time it will take your request to get to them, and for them to act on it. If you are traveling in 3 days, they may not process your request before the interview ... for example.
#2. Time it will delay your interview - it should be the same time it took them to setup an interview once they had the file. So a few weeks to 2 months max.

Your IL should have instructions on how to request reschedule of interview if you are unable to make it. If you simply don't show up, your application will eventually be considered abandoned and closed.
