Rescheduling Fingerprint Appointment- Policy Change?

Hi

Based on what I learnt from this forum, I applied for naturalization last month. People told me that I could get my fingerprints taken within 12 weeks after the original appointment date. I also confirmed this information with my friends who had got their fingerprints taken two months ago. Yesterday I got my fingerprint notice. Unlike what I was told here, the notice specifically asks for rescheduling the fingerprint appointment if I could not make the original appointment. I am now out of country and won't be back for a while. What should I do now? Do you think that USCIS has changed its policy about fingerprint appointments recently? Also is it possible to get/request my fingerprints taken in a US consulate overseas?

Any help will be appreciated.

No, you cannot get finger printing done from US consulate, they do not offer such service. Don't worry, you can take your FP any Wednesday (atleast that is what my notice said) after the scheduled date as long as your stay abroad is not too long like 3-4 months from now.

You should follow the instructions given to you. If it says to ask for a new appointment, then do so.

I should worry because this is NOT what my fingerprint notice says. It specifically asks for rescheduling. It does not give me the option to come any Wednesday(or any other day) within 3 months. I applied for my application knowing that I would miss the scheduled date, but I would be able to do it in 3 months and I would indeed be back in 3 months.

If I send the rescheduling request, USCIS will assign another date, but my worry is that the new date will also before my return to US as there is no option to request new appointment after a specified date.

I am very confused.

Just request for them to reschedule the FP for a date after you return.

My recommendation would be for you to try walk-in FP at your local ASC. You should be able to get your FP done early if you have travel documents with you in hand as proof that you will not be physically in town to do FP on the scheduled date. Most ASC accept walk-in FP especially if you have a genuine reason to get your fingerprinting done ahead of schedule. Good Luck.. Cheers...
