Requesting immigration records from USCIS

Hello All,
Has anyone requested their immigration records from USCIS by filing FOIA request? I'm thinking of requesting mine to get copied of some documents that I may have submitted in support of my applications and need copies as I don't have the original document anymore?

Is it safe to request or would it cause some problem? Also does USCIS charge for this? Thanks!
 
Yeah I filed a FOIPA request and got some stuff back. Don't remember what they sent but there was a lot of redacted information. It'll likely be free, but they can choose to charge you if they have to work heavier than expected to get you your information (unlikely). They will inform you of the charge beforehand I think, so you can decide whether or not you want to accept it.
