Requesting a copy of I94 and approval notice

I'm on a valid H1B. Problem is that my employer has kept my papers and I can't transfer now. He's asking for a lot of money to give me the documents. Is there any way I can request the docs straight from USCIS?

I know what he's doing is highly illegal.. who should I contact if I want to complain against him (problem is that complaining will end my visa..)

Thanks

------------do you have any evidence asking money?
what do you mean by "employer has kept my papers "? what papers he has kept? explain the full details

------------------talk to the lawyer of new company you want to join discuss all the details. he may be able to get your "papers" from your employer.

Well.. I have conversations recorded on my phone in which he explicitly states that he will only hand over the H1 Approval packet with I94 if and only if I give him 10k cash.

Now, is there any way to do a transfer without the H1 approval packet or I94... Meaning just the TAC number? I have sufficient pay stubs.

I hate those employers who are asking $$ for legal documents. I know one of my friends who transferred without H1 approval packet or I94. Have you ever talk to the lawyer of the new company ? Please don't give up and don't make a conclusion yourself. Please consult the lawyer. He/She will help you and the receipt number might be a key because approval notice and I-94 had been issued by USCIS to which you are going to submit H1 petition. Good Luck !!

Tantrix, your fears are unfounded.

Report your employer to the Department Of Labor and have him thrown in jail.

I'm dead serious about it. Do it. Because victims like you don't complain, crooks like him get away. It's up to you.

And, no, your status in this country won't be jeopardized. DOL will view you as a victim and help you and since you have a new job offer anyway, you can transfer to the new H1B.

Don't let the crook get away. Make sure he gets what he deserves.
