Representing US firm abroad count towards naturalization?

Friends.

As a potential GC holder, I might be returning back to my original country to become an agent/representative (under a company domiciled in the original country) of a US-based firm. Can the time spent in my original country selling US products count towards naturalization?

Further to above, it says in the N-470, "For the purpose of engaging in the development of foreign trade of the US on behalf of an american firm".

Does the words "on behalf" mean I have to be on the payroll of an american firm, or just being an agent/representative would suffice me to have my stay abroad count towards naturalization?

Thanks in advance.

Tommy

Further to the above, would my undertaking of working abroad representing a US firm jeopardize my GC? As it could be misinterpreted as an intention to abandon the GC by taking employment abroad.

No.

If you stay most time outside the US and only come back a few days every year, there is a high chance to loose your GC.

Also I dont know why you need a GC if you dont wanna stay in the US

Due to reason that my kids are still 1.5-2 years away from graduating from high school, and some loose ends needing time to sort out, that I plan to move to the US only later.

Thanks for your info anyway.

maybe, just maybe, your kids will be better off finishing high school in the US. If it's a good one, of course.

Well Lucy, problem is, we cannot as yet accompany them if they go abroad to study in the US right now, and their mom has a big worry that they are not mature enough to face life alone. Can't argue with her, being the one who borned them, although I feel there's a good side of having the kids settling down earlier.

She feels more comfortable releasing them to the brave new world only after high school, insisting that their present schools are not that bad, which I can't argue against.

We plan to go to the US this June, and will stay only until August. And next year by June 2009 my son will have to enroll at a university in the US, with our accompaniment. Do we really need to apply for I-131 if we stay away for just 11 months?

for 11 months - no, you don't. But with such prolonged absenses and because of your employment abroad, I'd be really concerned about proving that you actually reside in the States.

It looks like you don't really need a GC at this time.

How about if you got laid off in the usa due to economic crisis even got unemployment benefit but couldnt find job and go back to your country? I am still looking for a job in the US on the internet but all I got is hundreds of rejection emails which I keep. My industry is heavily affected from crisis. So as I can not find a job in US I am in my country living with parents and pay no rent etc... I still enter in less than every six months to US and stay a few days.... What if I found a very good position in another country thru:
A) A US firm and
B) A firm of my country.
And I still enter the US in less than every six months.... Would both cases be okay or just case A or none? (By the way I think I am not eligible for N470 as I have no uninterrupted 1 year although I will easily meet min 30 months requirement when I apply for citizenship later)

When you return to the US and stay there the clock will start all over...being abroad doesn't count and if you stay out too long you might loose your GC, you have to apply to stay out of the US and 2 yrs might be possible or maybe even looked at as too long since you haven't lived here at all...
