Hello Friends,

A friend of mine is looking for an advice to the following situation.

He has received his GC approval around 2 years back. Very recently he got an interesting offer from a UK company. This project might go beyond a year. He is wondering what would be the legal implications for working outside the US for more than 6 months?

1). Does he have to take any special permit from the USCIS?

2). Does his GC gonna be valid for working outside the US beyond 6 months?

3). Doe he have to pay taxes on earnings outside the US?

Some of you might have come across this situation before. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

he will have to have proof that he is working in a different country in a temporary status (work visa, for example) and is not residing there permanently.

For absences of more than 1 year you need to apply for a reentry permit, form I-131.
