I entered in the US under the VWP and overstayed after the 90 days.

I renounced my citizenship, so right now I am not protected by any government nor am a citizen of any country. I know I can still be deported back to my homeland but if that happens I'd be arrested at the port of entry in Spain for not having proper documentation.

I was told that I could fit under asylum because I am stateless right now. Do I fit the requirements for asylum?

Will DHS be looking for me?

Well first of all, you renounce your citizenship or you don't, it doesn't matter for USCIS. If you are from a VW country, it means you are safe where you were. Renouncing your citizenship doesn't mean much unless you can prove that you will be in danger if you go back to that country.

If you are from Spain, you need to prove how you are asking for protection from Spain...Its highly unlikely that you will gain asylum as you are from a "safer" country.

In cases like this, USCIS will contact spanish embassy and ask them to issue you a temporary passport...They would send you back to Spain and its up to spain as to what it wants to do. If you are spanish born, they may not do anything..if you are naturalized, its up to Spain to decide if they will take away your citizenship and deport you back to your country of birth...

We all who applied for asylum DID not renounce our citizenship OR were asked to. When we gained asylum, international law made it that we are seeking protection from U.S.A.

Hopefully you can find a U.S Citizen to marry so you can adjust your status.
 
Renouncing a citizenship does NOT automatically make you a refugee inside US. First of all definition of a Refugee is "who is brought from outside the US". As far as asylum goes, "want" is right that being stateless does not deem you to be eligible for asylum automatically. Technically we are still called the citizens of our countries of persecution and that would continue until we become US citizens.

Maybe if you go to mexico and and claim being stateless to the US embassy, they might put on thier list but it would be very very difficult, believe me.
So if you are just dying to get US status, follow "want's" advice and get married (a real marriage not fake one).

Renouncing your citizenship does not help your asylum application. You need to prove persecution in your country of nationality or of last habitual residence. You need to prove persecution in Spain. Chances for that are between slim and none.

i cant understand why somebody has to renounce his spanish citizenship,

for god sake, spain is a western modern country, its not a third world country,

its not afghanistan or albania, spanish passport is similar to american passport, you can travel anywhere without visa
