Hi Folks!

I am eligible to apply for citizenship july 2011, however, i need to travel for a graduation ceremony in the UK summer 2010. I currently have a travel document that expires May 2010, so i need to renew this document. Any ideas what the process is? I remember reading that i need to send the original travel doc?

Any special considerations i should look into before submitting this application?

As always, thank you all for your advice!

Best-
Pinkie

usually you cant get a reentry permit if you have a valid one. You probably have to send the one you have now in your possession in order to get a new one. I cant tell you I am 100% certain. May be someone can help.

Yup, you'll have to send yours in if you want a new one now. If you want to wait until a few days before your current one expires to apply for a new one, then you can keep it and write SET TO EXPIRE on the application where they ask for the status of your current RP. I assume you're an asylee or refugee, since if you're not, you don't need an RP at all.

thanks for the response to my question regarding renewing my travel document. I am a greencard holder since 2006, will need to travel summer this year 2010 my dilema is that my current travel document expires in may and i travel in June. I would like to apply for a renewal of my travel document. From your statement I believe I would have to send it in? Do i turn it in along with my application for renewal? I have searched for application procedures for renewal but can't seem to find any reliable place for instructions. If anyone could please direct me to the appropriate and advice me based on experience that would be great- thanks!

PS: in my earlier post i said re-entry permit, i meant "travel document" the green one that looks like a passport valid for 2 years. I would like to renew it for another 2 years. thanks folks!

Did you even read my post? And, you DO have a Re-Entry Permit. Look above your picture, and it will show you where it says so. I've told you what to do if you want to keep your RP. If you don't mind sending it in, make copies of it for your own records and apply for a new one and send your current one with your application.
