Renewing AP while not in country

Hello,

My I-485 is currently in process (filed in July 2007) I have my EAD and AP with EB2 PD of March 2005. My I-140 is approved and it has been more than 180 days since I applied for I-485. Due to personal reasons I have to return back to India atleast for 2-3 years.
I am thinking about keeping my 485 alive and keep renewing my AP and EAD on my own.
Do I have to come back into the US to apply for my AP or can I do that online from India?
Also, if I receive an RFE, such as for medicals, can I enter on AP, submit my medicals and leave?

Can you please provide some input.

Thanks very much.

The simple answer is you cannot renew your AP from abroad; you must return to the US before the current AP expires and wait to receive the new one before leaving again.

You may want to consider switching to consular processing.... if possible.

Thanks for your reply.
If I switch to consular processing and I get RFE for medicals, how can I come back into the US to submit them? How does consular processing effect responding to RFEs? Can I do that from India?

You won't get an RFE for medicals, since that will be done before your consular interview.

Of course. If NVC wants information from you, they'll ask you to submit it. That's how it works for everyone else outside the US.

Would I need a lawyer to switch my application from AOS to consular processing, I would rather do it on my own so all the correspondence comes directly to me, is this possible?

RealCanadian, could you please answer my question, can I switch from AOS to CP on my own without lawyer so I get all correspondence directly
