Renewal of TN visa and associated costs

Is the employer obligated to reimburse the round trip air-fare from the US to Canada along with the visa cost ($70 CAD)?
Employer says its the responsibility of the employee. Is there a UCIS or some sort of policy that states this?

No, the employer is not obligated to pay any costs associated with TN petitions or filings (Unlike H1-B costs, which are by regulation to be borne by the sponsor). However, these expenses are something you would want to discuss with the sponsor; their refusal to pay would seem to indicate a lack of commitment to you as a professional employee.

Thanks Nelsona. At first I was skeptical, i think you pretty much nailed it, lack of commitment it is. Lately there has been utter chaos ever since there has been a change in management......

I never asked my prospective employers to cover any fees related to my TN. My attitude was: I'm competing against 100 americans for the job, so why give them an excuse to cut me from the list?

It's not even about the money, but instead, about reassuring them that there's no hassle for them.
