Renewal of Passport having valid H4 visa

Hi,

My son's passport having H4 visa is expiring in May' 2007. He is currently in India and I am planning to bring him in Feb'2007. I heard that minimum 6 months validity of passport is required to enter into US. I would like to know the procedure AFTER RENEWING PASSPORT. Does he(7 years old) need to go to US consulate in India for transfering visa from old passport to new passport ?

Carry both passport when entering the US.

VISAs in the old passport remain valid unless explicitly canceled by your home consulate.

That is correct.
But one thing just came up in my mind is what if passport was damaged..
Passport authority of my country punches through whole pages of passport
and makes a couple of small holes to all the pages, when they invalidates it. It is the procedure that my country follows, and not necessary that your country does the same thing, but better to check it.
I'm not sure whether damaged stamp is still valid.

If expired passport won't be damaged, you can use stamp in old passport as well as new passport to enter the US.

Thanks for your replies. I remember that when the new passport is issued, Indian passport office will specify explicitely "CANCELLED" on the passport (Not on the Visa). Will that be OK?

I think unless stamp is damaged, you can use it.
