I need a small verification before I can proceed with my dependent's F-1 case. He’s at universty and he will turn 21 by this month end. So, we approached the international center regarding processing an F-1 for him. They raised a point that, since my pervious company’s green card has a receipt date of (04/19/2004;) might help him to get a extension also since, my green card has been filed 6months prior to him turning 21.

I wanted to is there a possibility as such? Or would you suggest to proceed with his F-1 process.

thanks,
Gogineni.

The best way to protect your dependent is get it changed his/her status from H4 to F1 irrespective of your GC processing.

End of the day we do not know what is going to happen, incase your I 485 is denied simply your company is not in good standing means your dependent study get ruined.

Apart from that gettin F1 have several advantages too. Work at campus and OPT are possible.

Go and change the status but do not travel until you get your GC.
