Regarding F1 visa expiry

Hi there!!


I m a wayne state university student,i got my F1 visa for 3 yrsi,e till aug 2008.
i m graduating aug 2007 and i m filling my OPT from oct 2007 to oct 2008.and my H1 commences from oct 2008.i have a doubt that my f1visa expires by aug2008 and my H1 starts from oct 2008.do i need to extend my student visa till oct 2008??if so how to do it.

Status and visa are two different beasts. As long as you maintain valid status and do not intend to travel, you can safely let your F-1 visa expire. Once you have your H-1B approval, then you can apply for an H-1B visa at a US consulate.
 
F1 status can be maintained while in US

As long as you stay as a full time student, you'll be fine. like the person earlier said, unless you want to travel you would not need the US Visa.

In your case you'll have a smooth transition from f1 to H1b.
