If I filed a wrong application or want to cancel an application, is it possible to get a refund ? I sent the application last week. The amount was taken out of my bank account today.

Yea right!!! Your fee is contrubuting to the bailing out the U.S. economy....
Thanks for contributing.....

Seriously: I don't think so.

The processing fees with USCIS are non-refundable, no matter what. That means, even if applicant wants to withdraw the application, or USCIS deny it, or if applicant has made some kind of mistakes, etc...yet still nothing could get the money back from the USCIS. Further, it's clearly indicated on the instructions for almost every application/petition that fees are non-refundable.

If your bank or anyone else is saying otherwise, then they don't know the fact that it's just not possible to get back the money from USCIS. Banks can try to get money back, by completing some legal formality on papers, if you had not authorized the transaction of USCIS fees or any other money matters but not in this scenario. Sorry.

Just curious: in your case what was it? Wrong application or did you change your mind?

It will probably help others out...

If your a Perm Resident (green card). You do not need a Form I-131 Travel Document (passport for perm residents) to travel to, in my case Jamaica. Just need to show Green Card. And a Green Card will get to back into the USA.

Other foreign countrys maybe require a Travel Document (passport) to enter, BUT green card is the only requirement to return if traveling out the country for less than 1 year. Again this is for Green Card Holders.

If you google around... you will read false info that a Perm Resident requires a passport for example http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080409212623AAPE2c5, but that is NOT true. So i'm out $385 for the Travel Doc.

Oh man, don't try this as it can cost you a lot. A green card is not a passport and should not be substituated to a passport. Even US citizens are going to be required a passport to go to Canada or carribeans, so I don't know how they will let a resident in without such document.

And what will you show to enter Jamaica ? You green card ?

If you are not a US citizen, you should be able to obtain a passport from your country of origin. Go to the nearest consulate center of your country.

This seems like it belongs in a different thread. Anyway, you are I believe technically correct. Like a US passport, the GC is US govt. issued document and, technically, it is sufficient proof of your GC status and admit you to the US. A travel document is sometimes issued for those people who do not have their own passports form coutnry of origin but the purpose of that is to enable you to travel and present that to foreign authorities - not specifically for reentry to the US. However, even if you get into a foreign country on a "mini" passport like that travel document, as a practical matter, what do you think is going to happen when you show up at the border only with a GC? Eventually, they'll let you in but in the meantime you'll be grilled.

It's the US customs border patrol rules

rules

*Lawful permanent residents (LPRs), refugees, and asylees (of the United States) will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card (Form I-551), issued by DHS, or the Travel Document issued to those with refugee or asylee status to apply for entry to the United States

From Jamaica's Consulate website http://www.congenjamaica-ny.org/visas.htm

"Permanent Residents of the United States visiting Jamaica as tourists for periods not exceeding six (6) months, and who possess return or roundtrip tickets showing that their journey began in the USA, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands do not require passports for entry to Jamaica "

I think you posted in the wrong forum. You didnt apply for citizenship... you just applied for the travel document. You dont need the travel document if you already have a green card. In case of Asylum you are issued a Refugee Passport with which you can travel around the world (its almost like a US citizen passport)
