For those of you who missed the USCIS conference call, you can download it here:

Thanks for posting that. I just finished listening to the entire recording, and I caught some more "disturbing" information that no one mentioned. The ombudsman said that N-400 receipts may take up to five (5!!!) months! I really hope that he just picked a random number off the top of his head.
The other thing they weren't clear about is what application receipts will be current by end of October. The ombudsman said all time sensitive applications receipts including N400 should be current by end of October, whereas the customer service director only mentioned AOS applications. Also, the ombudsman said that all employment based I-485 receipts are current , yet the USCIS person on the call said it was family based I-485 receipts that were current, whereas employment based I-485 receipts will be current by end of October. Seems that they can't even get the communication right between their own agency.
I think it will pick up in a few weeks time. Once all 485 filers get EAD by Nov 17th then we should be all clear for N-400s. CSC has already crossed the high turnover deadline of 7/31. NSC is right in the middle of it on 7/29. VSC should follow soon. TSC (better know as Turtle Service Center) always is unpredictable. EAD times are moving close to Aug 17 which is a good sign. My third instinct tells me that by Nov all July and most Aug filers will get RD and FP.
Vorpal- I have a same N-400 mailing date as yours-
You signature suggests that you filed FOIPA- can you tell me why did you do so and what is the benefit of it since we are into this mess.
Thanks
bb
Thanks a lot for a quick reply, Vorpal. makes sense- I will start the process right away.
have your check been cashed yet? also which center did you file?
should we create new thread to track AUG/SEP applicant?
Welcome to the waiting line, boyfrombombay! The reason why I filed FOIPA is a pre-emptive measure. After reading the horror stories of people being stuck in the name check process, I wanted to have something to base my complaint on, should I get stuck in the same nonsense. I have no criminal record, so I decided to file a FOIPA just to have written proof. I would definitely advise that you do the same. You can find more information in this thread: http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=136848
If your case is not receipted yet, there is little that FOIPA will do to help at this time in the process. They may just come back and say "not in system" or "no case on file". FOIPA is usually only filed after you have received receipt notice and your case has been pending for much longer than the posted processing times.
Are we talking about the same FOIPA? I filed the request for FBI to provide me with information that they have on me. Are you referring to InfoPass, by any chance?
No, I'am indeed referring to FOIPA. Why would you file it before USCIS has even receipted your case? By the time you think of filing WOM later for extended name check delay your FOIPA info you received months earlier may no longer be valid in the eyes of the court.
Ah, I see. I was acting based on the suggestion that Rahul Kumar had in the "name check lawsuit" thread. I'm also extremely curious to see if the FBI has any records on me. I have no criminal record, nor have I ever been a witness to a crime, but I'm just curious to see what they have. If I do happen to get stuck in name check, I'll just file another one.
I am skeptical about the value of filing a FOIPA before you know for sure you are name check stuck. I am not sure if the mere act of filing a FOIPA causes you to have a name check hit. If that is the case you may have created a hit where there was none.
