Re-entry: Valid original visa & USCIS email approving transfer sufficient?

Hi everyone,

I plan to apply for a transfer of H1 to a new employer. I have a valid H1 visa stamp from my current employer. I plan to travel to India after the transfer is approved.

My lawyer tells me that to re-enter the US, it is sufficient to show the email from USCIS approving the transfer at the port of entry (of course, in addition to the petition copy and a valid H1 from current/previous employer). I don't necessarily have to have the approval in originals since it is already in their database.

Is this true? Would someone post their experience in a similar situation? Please, this is urgent.

Appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

At POE show valid Visa stamp AND new original H1 transfer approval. I dont think POE officer will let you enter on the base of Email. go to POE and ask the POE supervisor

Thank you, ginnu, for your quick reply. How long does it normally take to get the originals in the mail? My lawyer and others have said that USCIS puts the papers in the mail almost immediately after approval. But I know of someone who had to wait nearly a month after the approval under premium processing. Is that the current trend, do you know?

Thanks again.
