One of my friends asked me yesterday if his mother, who resides in Mexico, can regain her permanent residency.

  • She acquired her green card through her marriage with her American husband in 1990's
  • Her green card was expired in 2007
  • Her American husband passed away in 2003
  • She currently lives in Mexico

Question
Is she able to regain her permanent resident status somehow?

Did she ever lose her status? If yes, HOW?

"Resides" in Mexico or merely been abroad for an extended period? For how long?

Your post contains insufficient information.
 
Yeah, just because her green card expired, it doesn't mean she lost her status. She might have lost her status if she stayed out of the country for too long, though.
