Hi, first time poster, hoping someone might be able to clarify an I 131 question for me... and that I have posted in the correct forum!

I am a US permanent resident (my wife is a US Citizen) and just received my I131 reentry permit and will be heading overseas very shortly. However, I noticed on the document that under the field "country" they have referenced my country of birth rather than my country of citizenship. I am wondering if this might be an error and whether I will have problems on reentry to the US as I am carrying a passport from my country of citizenship and NOT my country of birth? I look forward to receiving your advice! Thanks in advance...

Does not matter what country you were born or what country your a citizen of. If that travel document is "approved" (There should be two boxes, one that says approved and another that says Conditions/Comments), you can go anywhere. It is an official document from USCIS therefore any Port of Entry you come back to the US through, you will be paroled back into the U.S. They are normally valid for one year and for multiple entries.

I am assuming that because TD is not your national passport it will be sufficent to have your place of birth instead of your nationality.Usually in any passport issued by any government, place of birth will be on it as the physical place of birt and passport itself is proof of citizenship. I guess in case of TD your place of birth should be there and in port of entry CBP officers will see all your info in their computer and you shouldn't face any problem entering.

The US ALWAYS shows country of birth in that field, which is problematic only sometimes, like when you apply for a visa ON that document and fill your actual country of citizenship in the forms, making the discrepancy questionable. But, you can always explain these things, and consulates and embassies in this country are aware of the US customs. Don't worry about it in general.

Hi everyone thanks very much for your prompt and effective replies - sincerely appreciated... sounds like there is no problem at all re this issue.

If you don't mind, just a follow up question out of curiosity:

do you happen to know what the "TR" in the 'type' field refers to (I am assuming this is a fairly standard type on reentry permits) and the "M" in the entries field?

Thanks again, and all the best!
