Quit while working on TN visa

I was wondering if i want to quit my job or if i get fired, how much time do i have to look for another job?

Can i change status to visitor and look for work and stay at that place?

If so, do i have to apply before the quitting and how long can i stay? I remember that i was able to this process on a H1b.

Just wanting to confirm if it is the same for TN as well.
 
You remain in status until 60 days after you quit, or when your I-94 expires, whichever is earlier. During that grace period, a new company can apply to extend your TN with them (or you can go to the border and re-enter into TN with them). During that grace period, you can also apply for change of Status to B2 visitor status (and then if you find work either the new company would have to apply to change your status or you would have to go to the border to re-enter in TN; probably the latter since you can't work while change of status is pending).

i was reading the USMCA....

(8) Terminating Employment: There is no requirement that the TN employer or worker notify the Department of the termination of the employment relationship. If the employer chooses to do so, these letters should not form the sole basis of a visa revocation. The TN visa is not employer-specific and, should his or her employment end, the TN worker may begin a position with a different employer, so long as that position constitutes business activities at a professional level as required for TN classification.

Does this means you can just begin new employment in any TN Classification WITHOUT needing new TN.
 
I am not sure if the visa is employer-specific, but the admission is employer-specific. (The visa is just the thing that allows one to seek admission. Canadian citizens don't need visas, so statements about TN visas only apply to Mexican citizens.) Of course, one can also apply for Extension of Stay inside the US, so one can technically begin a new employment without a new admission.
 
I know that visa and status is two different things but reading the line it seems you dont need any new visa...as you are/will be maintaining the STATUS with new employer following TN classification..
 
This means that for Mexicans, which do require a visa, they would not need to get a new consular visa in order to enter the country on a new TN. All need a new TN when changing employers.
