Hi,

I got GC through future employement.

I joined the GC sponsor company in Jan of this year. Last week my contract got over. [I worked from mid Jan to mid Augiust for the GC sponsor- 7 months]

I have below questions :

1). Should i try to find another contract so that i can keep working for some more time for GC sponsoring company ?

2). Am i eligible for umemployment benefits ?

3). If yes, does it impact a). citizenship application b). sponsoring parents in future for their GC

Thanks,

Thanks,

1- By GC (or even before GC approval) you can look for any other employer to work with should any problem, or even without problem, happened with your sponsor.
2- You may be eligible
3- For sure will adversely affect your USC application. But if your application approved by certain way or the other and you become citizen, this will not affect sponsoring your parents.

Unemployment benefits are considered an "earned benefit" paid by your employer and will not hurt your citizenship application. Employers pay into a state unemployment fund from which the benefits are paid. Employers that do more layoffs have to pay more into it.

However, whether you are eligible to collect it depends on the laws of your state. It is possible that 7 months of work in the state is not enough to be eligible, and/or working on a short-term contract basis (instead of long-term W2) may not make you eligible.

... and as to your contract ending several months after GC, this will not be a problem for you come Natz time. The bad faith, if any, was on the part of the sponsor.

In 5 years, they are not going to come after you for your sponsor's behaviour.

Just keep meticulous records that it was their decision to let you go.
