Questions on renunnciation

Got my USC in 2008. Sent my indian passport to CGI houston to get my OCI, however they did not cancel the passport, Just mentioned with a rubber stamp that if the holder acquires foreign citizen, they will need to surrender..
I don't know why they did not stamp "Cancelled". Sent me the US passports with OCI visa and OCI cards.

I read about the Surrender certificate and cancel indian passport crap now.

I plan to travel to india in 3 months now.

Will I have any issues in the chennai airport if i dont have the SC and others..
Do I need to get the SC at all in the future ?
Can I apply in person ? I dont want them to lose my passports..

You can go to India without any problems. What you might need for future visits to the consulate is a surrender certificate, which should cost you only $20, though.
