Question on Social Security benefits.

Hi

I have a question on getting social security befenfits once we obtained out green card. I got my GC last year and within 3 months I switched my job as my employer was unable to provide me the job. Also did not care about what would happen at the time of getting Citzenship.

Anyway my question is in case I have lost my job with geninue reason and want to get SS benefits (from labour dept) till I get another job, what are all the procedure(s) need to be done in order to get that.

Do I need to register now itself with labour dept?
Any other procedure ?

SS does not provide unemployment benefits. The Department of Labor does.

Each state has its own rules/procedures for getting UI.
