Question on new Citizenship test

I have recieved a letter from INS, the received date on the letter said "Oct 01"
I sent my application on Sept 29 by mail, so do I take the new test or the old test?

As I understand it, you should be taking the new test, since the date they received your application is on or after Oct. 1 (in your case- on Oct.1). They have a table to check it for yourself as well.

Just go for the new test. I found it almost same or even better.

Per the note on USCIS website, test is determined by received date.

*The Application for Naturalization, Form N-400, is properly filed with USCIS on the date it is received by the appropriate USCIS Office with signature, correct fee, and the form is completed according to instructions.
