QUESTION on H1B six-year limit

My husband will work as a postdoc in a university for one year with an H1B, which is exempt from annual quota. Is this year counted toward the H1B 6-year limit?

My question might be too simple. But I could not find the answer elsewhere. Please advise! Thanks.

H visa cap 6 yrs is ireespective of exempt or non exempt categorey. Total h1 validity is 6 yrs unless you have pending LC more than a year to extend your H1 (exempt or non exempt) beyond 6th year.
