Hi, I am on my F1 visa, currently on my OPT. My EAD expires in July 2002.I could not secure a job until now. I wanted to know if I could extend my OPT by any chance?
I recently got married,my husband holds an H1 visa.I wanted to know if filing i-539 would be sufficient to convert from F1 to H4 visa? Are there any other forms that I need to file?

When should I start filing i-539,as I am planning on going to India for a short visit in June.
Help appreciated..

No you cannot extend OPT. Yes that is the form. Or else , when you go to India you can get the H4 stamped in the passport (risky at consulate). Just make sure that , you do not leave US after filing for change of status.
I am not sure whether it will be advisable to take a trip when on OPT and not having a job.

I recently filed the i-539, does any one have an idea as to how long will it take for the INS to respond?
I assume, i need to leave the country to get the H4 visa stamped on my passport once I get my passport back from the INS, is it better to get the stamping done in Mexico or India(CHENNAI)?
