Is there a limit of how much cash you can carry with you when you enter/exit U.S.A.
Please advise who know for sure.

I brought back 5000 cash last year because my uncle wanted to invest in a taxi-cab in U.S from germany...i put 50 dollars as to the cash I was carrying on the form...I dont think its a big deal...Usually I carry 1000-2000 dollars with me when I go out just in case...and bring back the same amount.

Laz,

There is absolutely NO limit. If you want to, you can carry in a million dollars in your backpack. But it does not have to be cash: it can be cash, check, diamonds, whatever. The point is, you have to declare it. And it its a huge amount, you better have an explanation of where that money came from and where its going.

From http://www.usembassy.org.uk/terror538.html:
There is no limit to the amount of money (U.S. or foreign) you may bring into or take out of the United States. If you have more than 10,000 dollars or foreign equivalent, however, you must report this to the Customs and Border Protection officer upon entry and/or departure.

That's right, unlike some other countries the US will never say no to cash brought on the American soil. The more the better!

there is no limit..but be careful here.
ask you self first how much money your make?
how much your income tax was for the last 3 years?
and from here you decide how much money you can take with you..
I remember samebody told me about arabic women ..she have $13000 cash
and what happen next the officer in the airport give her hard time after he found that she been get food stamps and her name in the wellfair program.
another guy have small text book ..and in this book he wrote how much money he have to give his sister ..how much money his freind have to paid him back..the problem,... he wrote all the number according to his country currency ..I mean the amount of money was so long with too many zero!!!seem to be a million of dollars.
the officer for same reson search his bag and found the book ..then he ask him :this is freinds phone number or what? he told him:no sir this amount of money I have to ..anyway the put him in the small office for hours until he clearify the situation.

You don't just carry $10K in cash, you carry something called traveller's checks :D

Thanks Bringslite, I really can not tell much difference between cash or traveller's check -- I mean, if you lost the traveller's check, then you lost it, just like cash. You burn it up, it is then lost, just like cash becoming ash. The only advantage is you may possess a single piece $10 K then bundles of $100 bills..

You purchase $10K travellers check from the bank, you may trigger...

Can x- screening differentiate cash and checks ?

Floyd, thanks for the posting. However the link does not work.

We really need a real example that somebody brought in or out more than $10K and declared that in Customs and let go without paying tax or fee.
Even for the example that Jubilee given in the Arabic woman's case, what was the consequence for her act ?
