Question concerning reentry permit

For my curiosity. When you have a reentry permit valid for 2 years. Can you just depart U.S. and return couple days before those 2 years are up without problems? I hope that it isn't important to come back after each 6 months.

Yes, you can show at the very end of the 2 years, but you may still be questioned about your ties to the US. With or without a reentry permit, spending over 6 months outside the US still puts you in the "seeking admission" category.

Truth. However questionable.

Do the immigration officers tend to ask many questions to people having valid REP and coming "in-time"?

Other ties to the U.S.
Say, if one wants to leave for a long time, probably it's not wise to keep a car and pay insurance for it. And we could find other similar examples.

But of course I understand the importance of having valid drivers licence and filing tax returns.

You apparently don't want to live in the US, so why don't you just surrender your green card so you don't have to keep jumping through hoops to maintain it?

How long does it take to receive a Reentry-Permit from the time of biometrics?

Hi,
A friend of mine applied for a reentry permit and got his biometrics appointment more than 3 weeks ago (August 1st). He's using my address while he's out of the country.
Until today I did not receive the permit:confused:. is this a normal delay?

I was gone for one week and asked the post office to hold my mail. Is it possible that the reentry permit got send back because of no reception?

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, 3 weeks is nothing. Don't worry, you still have time.

And, I've come back into the country with an RP having stayed out between 5 and 6 months, and I don't think I've been questioned. I've never been out for more than 6 months at a time, but I do have several back-to-back trips.

3-4 months is the normal time frame. Which is bad, but the "benefit" of that delay is that they normally make the permit expire 2 years after it was approved, so effectively the individual gets to stay abroad for 2 years plus a few months.
