Hi
I am GC Holder and I have a 3 month daughter who was born in India.(she got her GC through the class children born outside USA to GC holders that can gran such chiildren GC if their parents bring them back to USA on the first trip after birth.) She also has her I551 stamped on her passport.I am planning to apply for My Citizenship in march 2005.
My Questions are

1. I am planning to send only my daughter to my parents in India for more than a year.
Does REentry permit is needed for her?

2. If I get a Citizenship can I apply for the US Passport for my daughter from USA while she resides in India or does she has to be in USA while applying for her US Passport/Citizenship(she will be a minor child). Is it okay if her Reentry permit is pending while I am applying for her US Passport. Does she has to be physically present in USA for applying her N600?. Can I apply for her US Passport/N600 from India

1- Yes she needs to have a re-entry permit.
2- She has to be in the US to apply for N-600 or US passport.

Good luck.

1. i am not sure if she has to be in USA at the time of filing of N-600 by you.
But she needs to be in USA once atleast ( physical presence) with you also in USA after you get your Natz Certi. in order for her to be eligible to get US passport. Once she has met this physical presence requirement , you can apply for her passport either in USA or at US consulate in India.

2. For approval of N 600 , she must be residing with you in USA after you become USC. She has to appear with you at the DO where you applied where they will varify yours and her documents and issue to her Citizenship Certi.

3. I think you can even apply N600 2-3 months before even she arrives in USA on her GC, but only after you get your Natz Certi. That way the interview date willbe near to her arrival.

4. She will definately need ReEntry permit if she is to stay away more than 12 months. You know that you must file her I 131 before she leaves US and not after.

5. My question is in case like yours,
(a). Can one get his child's US passport from US on child's arrival in the US and not file N 600 at all? ( I would think so, Pl share your views)
( b). Is N600 optional? ( I think so, Pl shre your views)
(c). Is passport issuance independent of N600 approval? In that case, at the time of applying for US passport, does one send the child's GC in Original , indian Passport with US arrival stamp, with the application? ( I think so, Pl share your views).

Radni, see discssion in thread http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=160462

(a) Yes. The residency requirement is irrelevant since the assumption is that a GC holder is a resident. Practically speaking, once the parent is a citizen - it is enough that the GC child holder be present for a single second in the Us and he immediately acquires citizenship WITH NO ACTION on behalf of his parents.
(b) Thus, N-600 is optional. (However, highly recomended)
(c) TOtally independent. I did not apply yet for N-600 for my older children. For their passport all I had to do was send their GC and my wife's US passport. .

YES

ITS YOUR CHOICE, BUT IT IS HIGHLY REOMENDED. THIS WAY YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH IMMIGRATION AGAIN.

(c). Is passport issuance independent of N600 approval? YES

YOU SEND THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS IN ORIGINAL AT THE TIME OF APPLYING FOR US PASSPORT:
-CHILD'S GREEN CARD
-YOUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
-CHILD'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE
-YOUR NATURLIZATION CERTIFICATE
-SCHOOL RECORD IN CASE YOUR CHILD IS IN SCHOOL
-PASSPORT AGENCY MAY ALSO REQUEST SOME OTHER DOCUMENTS.

THEY NEED EVERY THING IN ORIGINAL.

hm11, yalag,
Thanks for your precise info and other related info.
It was difficult to locate more info on N-600 related issues and CCA on this forum. I would even suggest to Rahul to add thsi topic in his search index.

Expediated passport for Child?

hm11, yalag,

Yalag, you applied for your child's passport prior to getting Citizen Certi.
I like to know ,
1. is the time frame for issue of passport in such case generally same as normal case? Or does it take longer?
2. Did you use expedited service? How long did it take to get passport of your child?
3. Can I use expedited srevice for such case at extra fees and expect passpot to be issued in 5 working days?
4. hm11, you mantioned that they might request additional documents: i take it that in that case the process can get delayed.

Yes they can request additional documents. I know someone when they submited N-600 for their kids, they were asked to submit marriage cert. & birth cert. of the parents. The delay was not bad at all. It was one or two extra weeks.

N600 - Application process

I got recently citizenship certificate and also had applied for my Passport and as well for my daughter age under 18 , we both got the passports in mail.

Now I would like to apply N600 and I would like to know how this process begin and what are the documents needs to be attached with N600 and which service center and how much time usually USCIS will take to process such type of applications.

Appreciate if you can respond to this.

Thanks in advance

You can find the info you're looking for on the USCIS website:

Don't waste your money and time on N-600 if you have already obtained a passport for your child. There is no real need to get a certificate of citizenship for your child; the passport is the definite proof of US citizenship. Even USCIS website says that one can obtain either a CoC or a US passport as evidence of citizenship for a child deriving citizenship from parents.
