Question about N-400 previous marriage

I want to apply for citizenship based on green card. Here is my brief history.

I got divorce when I was in H1 in 2001. She was in US for few months and I filed a joint return also when she was here. Things didn't work out well, she went to India and applied for divorce and got divorce decree. After I received indian decree, I remarried and got a green card for me as well as for my second wife.

Should I have got a divorce decree from US also? How should I mention this in N-400 form? Should I show a divorce decree from US with N-400 form? This was not a problem for my green card. Will it be a problem for citizeship. Your answers will help me much here.

If the original marriage was in India, an Indian divorce decree is sufficient. It has no effect on your eligibility for naturalization.

Thanks Very much for your reply. I have other question. The divorce decree falsely claims that she wanted divorce because of cruelty for her personal benefits. ( I couldn't care much to fight for these false claims because at that time I thought it wouldnt't affect me as long as divorce is settled). Will these wordings in the decree have an effect on my citizenship, or should I do something for this?

It shouldn't be an issue since it amounts to hearsay of the so called "cruelty of personal beliefs" (unless she provided extensive evidence to the Indian court showing you were cruel).

Appreciate your response once again. Since the decree says, the divorce issues on grounds of cruelty and desertion, my fear is that the immigration officer may get doubt that I have cruel background when being with her. Unfortunately, I didn't fight for it when the decree was issued.

The IO might question you about it, but it wouldn't preclude you from naturalization unless you have something else in your history. Just explain the circumstances if it comes up during the interview.

Thank you very much. I will be prepared.
