---Question about I-131 fee waiver----

So here is my problem. Those of you who read my previous posting about being turned away at JFK know my story and know that I needed to get a new RTD. The only problem is that after I bought my ticket and everything I am pretty much broke and so I tried to apply for the RTD and submitted a fee waiver request letter with my application. Well today, I got all my application materials kicked back with a rejection notice that didn't mention anything about my fee waiver request being rejected. It simply said that my application can not be accepted because I did not include the appropriate fee for this application. Was this an oversight on their part. Did they not read the letter I submitted? I also submitted this application for expedited processing due to my circumstances. Was that a mistake? Was I asking for too much.

I marked the envelope "Expedited Service Requested" but I didn't put anything on it about the fee waiver (I just requested that in the attached letter.). Was I supposed to do that? I am very confused.

If someone has had experience with this before, please help me.
Thanks

You want Expedite Service and Fee waiver?
it doesn't work that way.

Did you attached your W-2 forms, bills, bank statements, etc, which can proof that you are broke?

If you waiving fee there is no expedite service, because they will review your request for fee waiver and it's not fast as you think, I was reading posts about fee waiver - it's taking about 4-6 months to get decision + 3 months to process your application for RTD or RP.

As far as I know , you can only waive the biometric fees which is about $80, as for the I-131 application fees, you can't waive it. "I think it is about 300$" you could have waived it before with the GC application

since $80 is not that much "not worth it to wait" compared to the $300, your best bet now is to pay the full fees "in a way or another" and request expedited service.

well as far as the instructions and my USCIS call were concerned, both seemed possible and both fees were eligible for waivers. I am this close to just renewing my NP and getting this mess over with. I have no plans to go to COP at all. But I need to go be with my dad while he recovers from surgery and USCIS is being unfair when they charge $385 for a document good for only one year (9 months, really). It's like they are rubbing this huge asylum granting favor right in our faces like a hot chili. It's demeaning.

I don't know about your USCIS call, but I-131 instructions "page 8" clearly states that application fees will not be waived, if you want to travel, then you pay

The fee for this application is
$305 and may not be waived, (see NOTE that follows for when this fee may not apply). The biometric fee is $80 for applicants ages 14 through 79 who request a Refugee Travel Document or Re-Entry Permit, unless the applicant resides outside the United States at the time of filing their form. See 8 CFR 103.2(e)(4)(ii)(A)). The application fee and biometrics services fee may be paid with one $385 check. Persons financially unable to pay the required biometric services fee may submit a fee waiver request, with supporting documentation, as described in 8 CFR 103.7(c).

you can try requesting a free RTD based on your latest GC, I know it should be a pending GC to be qualified but I heard some got it even after GC approval, nothing to lose !!"well, I think you don't have time for that" or you can just pay the $385 .

I am not familiar with RTD applications but it looks to me difficult to receive both expedited service and fee waiver at the same time. If you can afford it, I suggest you pay the fees and request the expedited service.

dear WILLH

i feel sorry about your situation

my advice to you

just pay the fee and stop wasting time, and get your RTD as soon as possible

everything you are doing now to get the fee waived is a waste of time.

good luck to you

Thank you all for your support. I sent back the application today with the fee attached. I wrote in pen on the envelop: Expedited Service Requested as well as on the letter of support that I attached inside the envelope with the application. Only snag is that I wanted to write it in large marker on the envelope and when the marker the post office lady gave me didn't write, she took the envelope from me and very kindly wrote just : Expedited on the front and back of the envelope. I hope that that will be enough as I really couldn't tell the mail lady to write Expedited Service Requested for me but i hope the fact hat I wrote that in pen along with the two large "Expedited"'s will be enough for them to expedite processing.

people on here can be such jerks

On the contrary, people here are always very helpful and I feel we are more than forum members here in immigration.com, everyone is trying to help and I'm sure you noticed that in your questions here that really got answered by many members.

Don't you agree that there is something wrong when calling someone as a jerk for just saying "finally!"

Oh, well, these things happen but thanks for your contribution.

No My friend when you say "It's about time" in response to someone who is trying to resolve a stressful situation, it sounds like you are being both mean and condescending. What do you mean by "it's about time" That it's my fault that I tried to apply for a fee waiver that I was clearly told I could do when I called USCIS. Or is it my fault that I don't have much money and trying to take what little I have with me so I can support myself while on my trip? The response was either unkind or you didn't know what you are saying. Why is it about time. I got the package returned to me on Saturday and on Monday I sent it back to immigration with the fee attached so it's not like I waited a year! I came up with the money as fast as I could and sent it.

Anyway, I am tired of some people's unsupportive catty comments on this forum. If you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all.

What's there to argue about? There is no reason to argue. whether I apply for a fee waiver or not is my problem. It's not like I borrowed the money from you for the RTD and then you found out that I applied for the waiver and kept the 385 dollars. So lighten up and be nice or just stop talking
