Proof of 12 years education?

As my wife has been selected for DV2008, she will need to provide proof of 12 years eduction to High School level.

She did not take many exams at high school, and those she did, she does not have the certificates (which we will now try to obtain).

She has a letter from her high scool (just received) confirming the dates she attended (5 years) and a list of the exams taken. Do you think this will be adequate?

Also, is there a requirement to obtain letters from primary schools, so it is evident she attended 12 years of schooling, or is the assumption that if you attend high school for 5 years that a person will have attended school for 7 years before that?

Just to add - she does also have a Higher National Certificate in Business Studies obtained in college more recently, which is higher than a high-school education. Would that negate the need for so much proof of previous schooling?

If she has a 12 years education, it must be enough..

they are not asking which exams she took, just to proof 12 years education. On the other hand I did not understand why she has no certificate..but anyway she has a college certificate, you should not have a problem.

High school should provide you a certificate or the document showing that she completed the education there, just in case you must obtain it. I think this document (or certificate) will work out along with the college certificate.

If you have still question marks in your mind, get all the documents that you think you might need.

Yep, she has a letter already for the school confirming she attended the school for 5 years (as is the norm for high school). What I was really asking is whether she is expected to get similar letters from primary schools that she attended from the age of 4 onwards, so as to proove the 12 years education. Or do they assume that if high school was attended then primary schools must have been attended also?

If somebody attented high school, then it must be assumed that she/he attented primary school too. If your wife was educated in US or in the country where the education system is similiar, I dont think you need to show them any certificate or document from primary school.

I dont see any problem, anyway, we need to get confirmation from other portal users who might have more experience than me.

Kind regards

she needs to have a high school diploma or certificate. A letter of attendance may not be enough.

I may attend school but never graduate, and that will not qualify me for DV.

There have been cases when people were asked for a high school diploma in spite of showing proof of higher degrees.

The thing is in the UK (and probably other countries) you dont graduate high school as such, nor have a dimploma certificate. Hopefully we can get copies of her lost exam certificates which were stored at her Mothers house, who somehow lost them :(

I was hoping just a letter from the school confirming her attendance, and lising her exams and results may be enough, but I guess it pays to get as much info together as possible.

I agree with LucyMo. the USCIS will need the completion certificate. there are people that finish a 12 year schooling in 18 years. that doesnt mean they have finished it. plus when it comes to USCIS you should take into concideration that they are a Bureaucratic system. but give it a try. nothing gained nothing lost.

My wife has to prove that she has a high school diploma equivalent as well. She graduated from school (10 years) and college (4 years, bachelor's degree). Do you think it would be sufficient to provide two degree certificates with English translations?

i think your wife will be fine. generally USCIS accepts the degree evaluations by a US evaluation service. as long as your wifes degrees are translated and evaluated by a US evaluation service she should be fine. you can find some of the evaluation services on this website. http://www.naces.org/ :)

In my case,I am a graduated pharmacist from Venezuela. My High School diploma was taken by the university when I began to study there, I have tried to find a new certified copy of it, but the process is so slow that I think I wont have it for my intervew at the Embassy. Do you think that my certified High School grades and my pharmacist diploma will be enough to prove my education level?

Thanks a lot! What if she doesn't have them evaluated, but instead we just provide notarized translations? Do you think this would be sufficient? Are there any formal degree evaluation/equivalency requirements for DV applicants?

Hi Guys,

I am getting a little confused now. So, even you have a degree in college, you still need diploma from high school to prove you met the requirement?

I called the USCIS hotline a few times to ask about this (I have a BS, MS, and PhD from US universities) and was told that having proof of high school graduation is safest, even if you have other higher degrees. I was told it depends on who conducts the interview and how bureaucratic the person is. Anyway, I did AOS and had all documents with me, but the interviewer did not ask for any of them.

Good luck to all.

She DOES NOT need them evaluated. An original, a copy and a translation of a high school diploma (or its equivalent) is quite sufficient.

There is no requirement to evaluate degrees for DV participants.

generally i have seen people being asked about the US equivalancy. just get it evaluated. the cost is not that much but it will be a great help and one less excuse for Interviewing officer to send you back.

I have never heard of anyone (and I have been on 3 DV forums for 4 years) ever being asked to evaluate their diploma/degree. All they have to produce is the original (+copy) with a translation.

if you insist on evaluation for DV purposes alone- it's a waste of money.

I guess it's up to Embassy if they prefer graduation certification of highschool. I've never heard the case that U.S. Embassy in Tokyo doesn't accept graduation certification of university. So, it depends on where applicants have a interview. But, at the same time, I understand that there might be some risks to submit university's certification unless applicants ask Embassy about it in advance.

Dear friends,

yes i do also believe that the certificate verification differ according to embassy. Most of Europian countries do not release students highschool certificate after he/she has got his university degree and hold by university authority. so in this case who will go for CP concernigng the country allocated in that continant. i think no need to show the highscool certificate.
