Processing time for green card based on asylum

They are still processing cases but at a much slower rate. Every month the number gets lower and lower. A guy who filed couple of months (June 2023) before me just got scheduled for interview next month. Some cases are approved without interview.
Could you please update us regarding this guy interview, how was it? did it happen already or not yet?

On 2/5/26, I received a confirmation that said USCS will call me in 10 days and that a Level 2 officer will talk to me about expediting my GC application. After 30 days, still no call. Today, I chatted with an officer, and she told me, "Wait." So now I am filing a mandamus case, as it has been 24 months since my initial GC application. I think the pause is real.

I have a question. I applied for a green card from asylum a year ago and then applied for mandamus, but it was rejected after 4 months later. My lawyer filed an opposition, and it's been 50 days now with no response. I contacted the lawyer, and he said there's been no reply yet. What should I do?

How long did you wait after applying a green card to file a mandamus?

Which court did you filed your mandamus? It depends on the judges

The lawyer took a lot of money to make mandamus in September, and I followed his advice. Now, after 4 months after the rejection, the opposition process has begun, and 50 days have passed. I've researched the matter and learned that the judge must respond within 10 days. So, what should I do if anyone with experience in this forum has any advice? The lawyer seems unwilling to speak to me and simply says there's no response.

I feel like maybe you should talk to another lawyer. 1. You might filed WOM a bit early because it’s only been a year since asylum grant so it was rejected (though I’ve seen several approvals of WOM when asylum was granted about one year). 2. Your lawyer might not have much experience with this kind of WOM, so they might have done something that led to the rejection of your case. Since it’s been 50 days already and judges must respond in 10 days, you can assume that something isn’t right. Maybe your lawyer did it incorrectly again, or the judges dismissed your case. I would suggest you to do some researching and get a lawyer who knows this kind of WOM well enough to help you with your case. Also get in contact with your current lawyer and let him tell you where your case is at exactly. Get some of your money back if possible, I know some lawyers when your WOM is rejected, they return your money.

My asylum approval was in September 2023. A year later, I applied for a green card in September 2024. Six months later, I filed my first Mandems application, which was rejected. I was told to wait until the year was up, and during this time, I filed a Service Request. It was rejected again. A year later, I filed my second Mandems application in September 2025. As I mentioned before, the Mandems application was rejected in January 2026. When I asked for a refund and for the case to be withdrawn, he got angry and said it was his fee. He took 500 from me to file an appeal, and I haven't received a response yet. I've paid him 5500 in Mandems applications so far.
I wish I could get some of the money back; they asked me for another 500.

That's why I'm seeking advice here.

I see, it’s weird that you filed for a WOM just six months after applying a green card, that’s way too early. If you don’t trust your current lawyer, my advice is talk to another trustworthy lawyer who knows about how to handle the situation. Don’t pay your current lawyer anymore unless you know they can actually help you…
