Procedures for wife to obtain J2 and work in USA

Hi,

I am getting married to an Indian national in June 2005. I have a J1 visa. I would like to get her over to the US to live with me and also to work.

I understand that she needs a J2 visa and an EAD.

I am a Singapore national. She can get her Singapore "green card" status in 3months after my wedding.

Can you advise me with tips on how best to get her J2 visa? Should I go to the US embassy in Chennai? Or should i do it in Singapore if its faster?

With regards to procedures to get her an EAD/form I-765, the www.uscis.gov website mentioned that "you must submit a written statement, with any supporting evidence showing, that your employment is not necessary to support the J-1 but is for other purposes."

Has anyone had any real experience they can share on what is the most effective way to put in this writing?

Thanks.

once you get married, you need to request that your sponsor issue a DS-2019 form for your spouse. With that form she needs to go to the US consulate whereever she lives and get J-2 visa. Once she gets to the US on J-2 visa, you can start thinking about EAD.

Hi,

I prefer to start filling your wife's paperwork for EAD as soon as you can and you can fill for EAD online.

I used to fill for my EAD before I get my DS-2019 to be as early as you can within the INS queue and resubmit my DS-2019 when I go it.

go ahead. thanks

it takes 10 minutes to fill in the form. WHy bother filling it before she even gets DS-2019?????? Plus, the form contains questions pertaining to the legal status, date of entry and point of last entry.... How do you propose she fills that before entering the States????
