Procedure to apply for OPT.

Hi,

I am in CA as a student pursuing an AS degree. I will be completing 1 year as a student pretty soon. I would like to apply for an internship and i would appreciate if someone could let me know about the procedure to apply for OPT. I know i can apply for part time OPT after completion of 9 months of study. I know that i need to apply for an EAD. I want to know that is a Social Security number required in order to apply for OPT?

What do i need to do and what is the procedure for everything.

Any information would be appreciated.

you need to apply for CPT, not OPT. You are eligible for a post-completion OPT, but before you complete your program - you can use CPT - curricular practical training, for internships. After you find a job, you will need to go to your International Center and get them to issue you a CPT permit, it doesn't go through USCIS. After that, they'll help you apply for SSN - you will need it to start working.
