Priority date

This is a long story but i will appreciate if anyone can answer the question.
My cousin who is a US citizen petitioned for an immigrant visa for her parents and siblings in 2006. Her parents got the immigrant visa last yr and have since moved to the US(permanent residents). My cousins parents are wanting to cancel prior visa petitions so that they can file for their kids since they are permanent immigrants and their kids will get the visa quicker than as siblings of a US citizen.
My question is, is there anyway that their kids can keep their priority date from 2006 and how can that be done?

The only way the kids keep the original priority date is if the parents do NOT cancel the petitions. Have they been approved yet?

they have not been approved. I just realized that their applications have been cancelled by their sister who is d US citizen. Bummer
parents are planning on applying for them by next wk.

A petition must be approved in order to lock in the priority date.

Yes, but for the Priority Date to be preserved between petitions the original I-130 needs to be approved.
