Press Coverage of Our Story

Emails sent to 1700 media addresses.

Emails sent to close to 1700 media contacts all over the U.S. Roughly 25% bounced back. Hopefully we will get some more responses out of it. Attached is the file with the list of emails, for future use.

tr22,
Excellent Job. If we have 10 people like you in this forum, we can achieve anything. Right now i see about 3 or 4 committed people. I am working on fund collection initiative. You will hear some news on it very soon. Once the way is cleared for fund collection, let us mobilise every one in this forum and collect as much money as possible. It's time to hire some professionals to lobby for us in the Unites States congress and also to involve various indian american organisations to fight for our cause.

Good coverage of the lawsuit in India Abroad.

Rajiv,
India Abroad is a very powerful media (largest circulated indian weekly newspaper in USA). The journalists (Shakti Bhatt etc) regularly interview many congress men, both republican and democrats. In every issue, i see some interview or other from very powerful politicians. Many a times they interview Indian ambassador here and also they know all the 'who and who' of indian american organisations in USA. So i request you to talk to these journalists and make a strong appeal to make them ask about greencard delays to every powerful person they interview in future.

Re: Ilw

I am sending the above link with a short write-up to the following reporters of New York Times.

1. PJ Anthony New Dehli Bureau Manager
2. Adam Liptak National Legal Correspondent
3. Steven Weisman Washington Correspondent
4. Barnaby Feder Technology Reporter

and two other persons in NYT, whom I do not wish to put on this list.

I shall also try to do the same with Wash Post - and with some luck we are sure to hit the headlines.

Thanks

Making American Media Coverage More Effective

When we contact US media, expect an ambivalent response. What we need to highlight is the cost to the US if these folks go back to their country of origin.

As an example, consider the typical Indian I485 Engineer. Many folks come here to do an MS and then take a job. Others were working in India for sometime, came to the US, perhaps went back once or twice before coming here for good. Most of these folks now have at least 5 year of US work experience; many have six, seven or even eight years of work experience. Most folks who survived the techology melt-down are top quality people, valuable enough for their employer to retain them.

A person who has spent 6-8 years working in the US acquires a lot of experience in core technology, project management, communication skills, market knowledge etc. If (s)he goes back to India, (s)he can easily mentor a team of 4-5 young college graduates. In India there is no shortage of fresh graduates; there is still a lot of demand for experienced folks who can lead young graduates or manage projects. These experienced folks moving back to India, become the "key-enablers" who can facilitate the movement of a development project from the US to India. Every experienced engineer forced to go back to India, is potentially going to cost the US economy another 5 entry level jobs in the short term; the pyramid effect will continue over time.

America works on self-interest. Highlighting how the INS (or whatever it is called now) contributes to future job loss and high-wage job export, might let us get a better reception then just our individual horror stories.
