Power of Attorney

First of all I apologize for asking a question that is irrelevant to this forum, but this is the only place I get genuine answers, so I could not resist asking.

I am a H1B holder trying to purchase a property in India. I need to grant a Power of Attorney to my dad in India. I got a POA document that I am supposed to fill out and have it notarized by someone here. Now my questions are

1. Do the Indian consulates notarize such POAs?
2. If so, how long does it take assuming I have to mail them out the docs and they have to return them to me in mail?
3. Is there a charge for this process?
4. Is there any other authority other than consulates who can do this locally (A Bank where I have an account? An attorney who processed my H1B? etc)
5. If so what is a typical charge for getting this done through them? (Just ballpark numbers would do)

------------That will not be accepted by registrar in India get it from consulate

**other option it to get Power of Attorney typed by notary in India on 100 rupees stamp paper then your father sends you by mail and you sign that and send it back and then notary who made Power of Attorney will stamp it and sign that.

Thanks Ginnu. The nearest consulate to me is in Chicago. However they wont do this service through mail. Is there any workaround for this? I mean who would be considered authority enough to notarize the POA other than the Indian Consulate.

--------------if you are out of India then you need to go to Indian consulate or embassy. or get it from India as I wrote you earler
