Postponing the interview - Number of visas issued

Hello everyone,

I have a question and I couldn't find anything quite answering my question so far, so I'm turning to you!

I received an e-mail yesterday telling me that my status had been updated, I checked and my appointment has been schedule to April.

But I'd like to postpone this interview for various reasons, the main one being that I'm not gonna be close to Paris (where the interview is gonna be held) and also because considering the 6 months visa I would get if I were to pass, it would suit my plans better if I were to get that visa around July, because I'd like to move at the end of the year rather than in October.

I contacted the embassy, and they told me it would be ok to postpone, but also that "the Diversity Lottery Program ends on September 30, 2014 and postponing the appointment too close to the deadline may jeopardize the availability of visa numbers should you qualify. Unfortunately we may never ensure that visa numbers will be available later."

So, from what I understand about the visa bulletin, even though over the past few years, Europe reached the "current" status by the end of September, this year they may stop the interviews sooner, as soon as they reach the maximum number of visas issued. Meaning they might stop raising the cut-off numbers each month. For instance if they were to reach the maximum number of visas issued by the end of April, the numbers would stop rising each month in the bulletin, and the next visa bulletins would show the same cut-off number for the next months in Europe(25,400). Am I right, or am I missing something?

Then if I am right about this first point, I couldn't find anything showing the updates about the actual number of visas being issued in total and/or by each country each month to try and get an idea of how many more visas are to be issued.

I assume that since they usually reach the current status by August for Europe, it means they usually still have some visas available at that time, and therefore that 'statistically' there shouldn't be any problem if I were to postpone my interview to June, am I right?

Basically, my concern is that they run out of visas to issue by the time my new interview comes in June.

So if anyone has any info about that and could help me understand and make the best decision possible, that would be great!

Thanks guys :)

Without going in to detail about the explanation - let me just say this - moving to June (or even July) would be fine. June would be playing it very safe....

You are correct that at some point the numbers will stop rising (unlike recent years) but as I say June is safe.

Moving the interview to June or July may be safe, in terms of visa availability. But you need to remember, there's the possibility of the embassy not having an open slot for an interview either of those months, which may further push it down to August or September. So weigh the pros and cons of moving the interview carefully before embarking on what you think is best for you.

Another consideration is that you may be placed under administrative processing which would delay visa issuance. If AP is not completed before visas run out you would also miss out.

Mate Don't postpone it ! You'll be risking a once in a life time opportunity. So as others said weigh ur pros and cons and try your best to attend the interview rather than trying to reschedule it. Good Luck

I have the same problem. I want to delay the interview date because one of my childeen doesn't have a passport yest because he born in a foreign country. In this case I must ask for delaying

Thanks a lot for your inputs guys.
I have a few more questions though if you don't mind.

First of all, postponing the interview doesn't increase the chance of getting under administrative processing, right?
I mean, I guess it is very unlikely I get administrative processing since my case is quite simple, I'm a french student, alone, I'm going to graduate my MSc in a few months, I don't exactly see how it should need more time to process. Even though you can never be sure about anything I guess, it seems unlikely, no?

Also, how does the postponing exactly work, when I tell them I'd like to postpone, do we agree on another date together right away, or is my case put 'on hold' and they let me know as soon as they have an opening? Is it different from one embassy to another?

And a final question, is there a way I could ask, on the day of the interview, to have my visa start only like a month later?

Thanks :)

"postponing the interview doesn't increase the chance of getting under administrative processing, right?"
Correct.

"I guess, it seems unlikely, no?"
Yes it is unlikely - but can happen.

"how does the postponing exactly work"
Varies by embassy - in theory though they have to account for the visa number that has been allocated to you for that month, so they may send your file back to KCC for re-allocation of the visa number.

"is there a way I could ask, on the day of the interview, to have my visa start only like a month later?"
No.

Some people have been warned not to do this, done it anyway and it was no big deal. However, others have for sure experienced problems. This year is unlike others for sure - and there will be a lot of unhappy people this year - so up to you whether you take this risk or not. Why not do the appointment, take a trip to the US within the 6 months (to activate your LPR status) and then go back to France to do whatever you want. Once your visa is activated (by entering the US) you can leave for up to one year without causing any problem.

I have already explained you do not need to reschedule for that reason.

pliz don't, this year seems not to favour on visa availability so if there is no big deal go for Yua interview then after attaining yua plastic card (gc) yu can come back to France and do the rest.

You know what - having just spent the last hour or so looking at the CEAC data or visas issued so far, I personally wouldn't delay the visa interview. At all.

Thanks a lot everyone, you guys are right, I'm not willing to make that bet, I'll manage to go to the interview, I'll start scheduling for the medical exam today and gather the remaining document.

As you said britsimon, I can go to the states for just a few days in order to finalize the process, and then come back to France to settle some things before moving for good without having received the physical green card yet? I can leave and enter the US again for a year without the green card in hand, right?
The green card would arrive while I'm in France at the US address I gave on my forms, and I could pick it up as soon as I re-enter the US?

Yes exactly, no need to have the Green Card in hand, the stamp you get in your passport is valid for 1 year.

I mean, once my CN is current, and I know (it's an example) that my interview will take place on may 20th, could I ask to to it on may 2nd ?

Hey guys, Do you think case number EU37*** is a safe number, I mean would i get an interview before all the vissas are issued and approximately around which month? Thanks in advance everyone and good luck on your journey.
