Post-TN: Entering the US to retrieve personal belongings

Hi,

I am on the TN1 visa and recently lost my job (i.e. <60 days ago per the grace period). Unfortunately, I am unable to find another sponsor during this time so I am coming back home to Canada.

My question concerns what constitutes essential travel currently given the US side of the border these days.

I have a lot of physical belongings that I cannot afford to send cross border through a company, so my intent is to send them to a storage facility in a US town near the border, and then make trips from Canada to the US to retrieve my belongings.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with something similar, and whether these trips I intend could be considered 'essential travel' or at least permissible under B-2, or am I likely to be turned away at the border.

Thank you in advance,

I don't think this is essential travel. So you might have to fly into the US and then rent a truck in a one-way rental to drive your stuff back into Canada.

I agree that this would not be essential, and you would need a $150 covid test each time you cross, even when non-essential is allowed.

You should probably file for B2 and then make your way to Canada with ALL your stuff.
