Have any of you applied for your RTD recenty and are still waiting for it or already got it? Please post your dates when USCIS recieved the application and when you got them along with whether they were renewals or new ones. Thanks.

Mine: USCIS recieved the application on December 10...Still waiting.

My RTD ND is 06/16/03 and I am still waiting. They had asked me an RFE which they received on 01/05/2004. I have no clue why it is taking so long!!!

As long as you have the case number, I would not endeavor to find another copy of the receipt.

Gilbert,

My RTD RFE asked me to provide proof that I was still in a status eligible for RTD. Like 3 times before, both myself and my wife had send the I131 with our expired RTD on 06/16/03. I got an RFE late Decembert 03 but my wife got her RTD on 01/12/04. My RFE answer was received by them on 01/05/04 but no response yet from them till now.

I dont think the RTD delay is for any additional security checking but must be lack of staff alloted to this work.

No choice but to wait.

RTD

Me and my wife's applications along a letter from a canadian hospital were recieved on 1/20/04 at the nebraska service center, we both recieved the RTD on 2/13/04.
the letter is for my inlaw in the hospital....
we couldn't believe........
Good luck everybody .

My I-131 application was received on August 15, 2003. I had requested an expedite twice. The first time I did not submit any supporting document in early December. The second time I submited a letter with my air ticket in early January. Both incidents I received zero respond. I was very dissappointed and desperate.

I was desperate because the scheduled trip (April 2nd) to Europe is to meet my family members which I have not seen for almost 7 years now and we all have brought our airline tickets. Becuase of this reason, I wrote a letter to my Congress members. I received help from one of them, and I received my travel document on Februray 13, 2004.

Even though it took 6 months for me to receive the refugee travel document, but I was very fortunate that the Congress member was willing to help. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to meet my family members. Good luck to everyone.

RAsylee,

According to my understanding, if you do not receive a respond from NSC within a month after your expedition request. That mean your request is not granted. At least that what I have been told when I called the USCIS national number.

Now, the NSC is processing receipt date of August 1, 2003. You might receive your RTD before your Congress member is working on your behalf even if you write your Congress member a letter.

I agree with you that it is very difficult to figure out the expedite granting process.

cchong,

I agree with your assesment. In my case I decided not to pursue the expedition as it was not worth my time. Hopefully RTD will arrive in next month or so. Last time when I applied for RTD I was an asylee and now that I am a permanent resident I think I will have to apply for a new RTD as this old RTD will show my status as Asylee.

Regards,

Is it possible to request an RTD 6 months before the expiration of a current one? In order to have always a valid one? I have a job where I have to travel a lot, without an RTD I'll be fired.

Thanks for your comments.

After reading the posts on this forum, I have applied for RTD in Jan. 04 although mine expires in May. I have to travel in september so I wanted to be cautious.
BTW: My uncle applied for RTD in Sept 03 and still havent received anything.

Flashington,

I don't know the answer to you question, but I did apply 4 months earlier before my previous RTD was expired. And I did return the unexpired RTD to the NSC when I applied in mid-August of last year and my RTD was expired on Dec 31 of 2003.

The instructions on the I-131 application form indicate that the unexpired RTD should be returned to the NSC if we apply a new one before the RTD is expired. I don't know if the procudure is enforceable.

I also heard someone say that we can not apply a new benefit 3 months before it expired. But I don't know how accurate the statement either.

The reason I applied very earlier becuase I scheduced to travel to Europe to meet my family members on April 2nd. I did not want to take a chance not having a valid RTD. If you have read my previous post, I waited 6 months for my RTD. I also received help from one of my Congress members.

To be honest, I think having to wait more than 6 months for a 1 year travel document, the system is fundamentally fault. Now, people know the wait time is more than 6 months, I would assume all of us will try to apply earlier. This will create more backlog. The system is broken. I do hope the increase in application fees will allow the NSC to increase the resources it needed. I have learned my lession. I would never buy any ticket without my RTD on hand. When I brought my ticket few months ago, I was thinking to myself there is no way to take more than 4 months to process the RTD. I was very wrong.

I received the RTD in the mail today. It is the new green color document.

Received by Nebraska on 15 Aug
Document made and sent on 6 Feb

When I sent the application I was an asylee, In Nov I got approval for my case etc.....The RTD that I just received correctly calssify me as Permanent resident.

I only wish that life of this document was more than a year...
