Police Certificate older than 6 months?

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit concerned about my Police Certificates still being valid at the time of my interview.

The instructions in my NL package advised that I start obtaining my documents as soon as possible (except for my Australian Police Certificate which should be applied for when the second package arrives?).

So I excitedly applied for both my British & Canadian Police Certificates as I'd heard stories of these taking months to process. Well my British Police Certificate has already arrived so I would expect my Canadian one to arrive not too far away as well.

But I've heard that the report should not be older than 6 months at the time of the interview. My British certificate is dated May, 2008 but my interview should not be until December or even January next year.

Have I jumped the gun and obtained my certificates too early? I thought the more organised the better but I guess you can be too organised (or maybe too eager ).

Has anyone here taken police clearance certificates older than 6 months to your interview? What was the outcome?

Thanks heaps!

Dave.

Where do you live at the moment?

When was the last time you lived in Britain and Canada?
It would make sense that if you currently live in Australia and have done for at least the last six months then you need to get police clearance for prior periods in other countries.

If for example you lived in Britain from 2000 to 2004 it really makes no difference when you get your police report. If you get it now, in a week in a year in 5 years it will still cover the same period and if you no longer live in that country then the report will by definition always be the same for the same period no matter when its issued???
You will most likely need to get the report from the current country you live in (I am guessing Australia in your case) as late as possible before the interview so that it covers the maximum amount of time that you have lived in that country for.

So in summary, I am guessing that the most recent police cert should be with inn 6 months, the others may not matter as much.
But hey worst comes to worst just re order them in a few months! :)

Other than that (if you appear in the country you got the certificate from, and appear after the date you got it), your police certificate should still be valid on the last day of the visa. The certificate is valid for a year under those circumstances.

So, your visa will not be for the full length of 6 months. It will expire in May.

Yep, I'm in Australia.

Hi alemitmee & raevsky,

Thanks for your replies!

Yes, I am in Australia. Included in my NL package was a page that specifically told me not to apply for my Australian Police Certificate until notified so I assume that will be when my second package arrives nearer the interview time.

I lived in Canada in 1997/1998 and in the United Kingdom from 1998 - 2001. So I guess those Police Certificates should be okay as they cover the time I lived in those countries?

alemitmee, I noticed you're about to go through the interview process. Do you have to obtain Police Certificates from other countries as well as the one you are living in?

Thanks again for all your help! :)

Dave.

As long as you have never been in those countries after you got the certificates, including the day you got them.
