POE vs Consulate

It seems the official info I read on travel.state.gov or on toronto.usconsulate.gov all point me in the direction of applying for TN status through the consulate.

Most people I speak to, and after reading posts on this forum, have recommended going straight to the POE instead since it can be done quickly on the spot.

At the POE, do I require the following:
- Proof of citizenship (and what documents are sufficient? Passport? Birth Certificate?)
- DS-160 online non-immigrant visa application
- Dates of the last 5 visits to the USA

Thank you!

I think you are misreading their website!
Cdns are not eligible to get a TN at a US consulate in canada. they will not even accept your appointment request.

Go to POE. None of the info you list is required other than passport.
You will need of course the TN-stipulted documents, like the TN letter, your degree, letters of experience, etc.

i believe letters of experience are required only if one doesnt have the pertinent degree or holds a diploma only, right nelsona?

Other than that, as nelsona mentioned, just go to a POE with the pertinent TN-required docs and you should be all set.

nelsona is correct if you are Canadian. If you are Mexican then the first step of obtaining a TN-2 visa at a consulate is needed before appearing at a POE. You don't actually say whether you are Canadian or Mexican (TN status includes both TN-1 for Canadians and TN-2 for Mexicans) although from other posts you appear to be Canadian.

No need to read tea leaves, Cal. Our poster is Cdn, and was looking at the Toronto Consular website.
